Ohrid Tour Questions, Answered
Questions about Ohrid cluster around money and timing: whether the lake boats fill up, what a from-price covers when you pay in denar, and why a free walk still ends with a tip. Short answers below, with the small print that trips people up.
How Tour Booking Works Here
When you book a tour through a link on this site, the operator pays us a small commission on the sale. You pay the same price either way, because the commission comes out of the operator's side. We list 47 bookable tours across 11 categories, from free walking tours to full-day trips beyond the city, and every from-price shown here comes from the live booking page.
Costs, Currency And Opening Days
North Macedonia uses the denar (MKD), and it sits outside both the EU and the Schengen area, so roaming and card rules differ from neighbouring Greece. On the tour side, published from-prices here run from nothing at all to $343 per guest, with free walks tipped at the end rather than paid for in advance. Wine tastings start from $30, boat cruises from $11, and the big day trips cluster between roughly $46 and $50 per person, running ten hours or more. Every tour links to its live booking page, which shows the exact current price, meeting point and start time before you commit to paying.
What Changes With The Seasons
Seasons shape an Ohrid visit more than most visitors expect. Summer is peak time for the water: boat cruises to St Naum, stand-up paddle sessions and lake swimming all sit at their busiest, and the shore lanes fill through July and August. In winter several boat operators and lake activities pause entirely, while the old town walking tours and free walks keep running in cooler weather. Paragliding depends on conditions on the day, so a booked slot can shift with the forecast. The live booking page for each tour notes its operating season.
Seeing The City For Free
Plenty of Ohrid costs nothing. The old town lanes, the lake shore and the walk up to the cliffs above Kaneo are public space, and three free walking tours among the tours here take no payment up front, you simply tip the guide at the end. Rides run about two to two and a half hours and cover the old town core. The ticketed side is boat cruises, wine tastings and the longer day trips.
