Ohrid is a small town on a big lake, and the map explains most of the planning. Where Ohrid Sits On The Lake

Ohrid perches on the north-eastern shore of Lake Ohrid, water on two sides and the Galičica range rising behind it. The lakeside road threads south through Peštani towards St Naum, which lies close to the Albanian border, and north-west to Struga at the point where the lake drains away. Skopje sits roughly 170 km off by road, so anything tied to that city means a long day rather than a quick hop. The airport, by contrast, is only about 10 km out.

Begin in the Old Town and move outward. St Sophia, Plaošnik, the Ancient Theatre and the fortress sit within one short climb of each other, and the old bazaar street runs just below them. Kaneo church and the lakeshore beaches are a waterside stroll west, while the bus station sits on the north-eastern edge of town. Anything beyond that, down to St Naum, means a bus, boat or car.
